UNIK Invests in New Production Facility to Double Mould Manufacturing Capacity

Major Capacity Expansion
The production expansion focuses on three key upgrades:
Additional CNC Machining Capacity: Two new gantry machining centers have been added to the existing four, reducing lead times for critical components and enabling production of moulds with tighter tolerances and smoother finishes.
Dedicated Heat Treatment Line: A second carburizing furnace has been commissioned specifically for interlocking mould components, ensuring consistent surface hardness of HRC58-62 across high-volume orders.
Core Pin Production Cell: A separate production cell has been established for core pins-the most wear-prone component of interlocking moulds-enabling UNIK to stock standard pin sizes and respond quickly to urgent replacement orders.
With this expansion, UNIK's annual mould production capacity is increasing by approximately 40%, from 1,200 sets to over 1,600 sets per year. Lead times for standard interlocking block moulds are being reduced from 20-25 days to 15-20 days for confirmed orders.
Advanced Equipment for Precision Manufacturing
The new CNC machines feature state-of-the-art digital programming systems, enabling the production of moulds with narrower tolerances and smoother finishes. With this upgrade, UNIK is able to increase monthly production capacity to 50 mould sets per month, reduce production lead times for international orders, and ensure consistent ISO and CE certified quality across all mould series.
UNIK uses Cr12MoV and 9CrSi alloy tool steel for optimal hardness, wear resistance, and toughness, with carburizing heat treatment achieving surface hardness of HRC59-62 while maintaining core toughness at HRC35-40. The expanded capacity ensures these standards are maintained across increased production volumes.

The production expansion is driven by visible changes in three major regional markets:
Africa: With annual urbanization rates exceeding 4% and a housing deficit of over 20 million units across Africa, governments have prioritized affordable housing programs. Interlocking blocks can save 30-37% in material costs compared to traditional stone-and-mortar construction. UNIK has already shipped a complete production line to Kenya in 2026 and maintains a partner warehouse in Nairobi for spare parts and technical support.
Southeast Asia: Infrastructure spending in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam continues to grow. Interlocking blocks are increasingly specified for slope protection, retaining walls, and drainage linings due to their durability and ease of installation. UNIK's Quanzhou location offers a geographic advantage, with shipping times of 5-10 days to major Southeast Asian ports.
Middle East: Major developments in Saudi Arabia and the UAE require interlocking blocks that meet strict ASTM and BS standards. These projects demand moulds with tighter tolerances-core pin alignment within ±0.1mm, compared to ±0.2mm for general applications. UNIK has supplied tool steel interlocking moulds with nitrided core pins to several Middle Eastern contractors, achieving service lives exceeding 100,000 cycles under high-wear concrete mixes.

The expanded facility continues to operate with advanced equipment and German carburizing and heat treatment technology.
