Kerb stones define road edges, separate traffic from pedestrian zones, and direct stormwater runoff. The moulds that produce them face unique demands: longer cavities, higher ejection stress, and strict straightness requirements. UNIK manufactures kerb stone moulds for brick plants, precast producers, and infrastructure contractors who need consistent output over extended production runs.

The company began operations in Quanzhou, Fujian, in 2010-a region with deep manufacturing roots and a historic position on the Maritime Silk Road. From this location, UNIK exports brick machines and moulds to 28 countries, drawing on over fifteen years of experience in the construction equipment sector.

Materials and Heat Treatment for Abrasive Conditions

Kerb stone production uses concrete mixes that can include sharp aggregates, recycled materials, or high-sand content. These mixes accelerate wear on mould surfaces, especially at the cavity edges where concrete enters and compacts.

UNIK selects steel grades based on the customer's specific concrete formulation. Standard mixes receive 42CrMo steel, which provides the hardness needed for wear resistance and sufficient toughness for high-cycle operation. Highly abrasive mixes require tool steel grades such as Cr12MoV to slow the rate of surface erosion.

The moulds undergo carburizing heat treatment, which creates a hardened surface layer at HRC58-62 while maintaining core toughness at HRC35-40. The hard exterior resists abrasion from concrete aggregates. The flexible interior absorbs vibration without cracking. This combination delivers a service life of 80,000 to 100,000 cycles under normal production conditions.

Precision Machining for Dimensional Consistency

Kerb stones must fit together properly during installation. If length varies by more than ±2mm, joints open up or compress unevenly, allowing water infiltration and frost damage. If height varies, installers must shim or grind each unit, slowing installation and increasing costs.

UNIK kerb stone moulds are produced on CNC machining centers with several critical quality controls:

Whole-mould straightness is held to ≤0.5mm across the full length. Every mould is checked on a surface plate before shipping to ensure it is not warped or twisted.

Surface finish reaches Ra 1.6 or better, allowing concrete to release cleanly at the end of each cycle. Rough surfaces cause sticking, leading to chipped edges and slow cycle times.

Internal corners receive a 3-5mm radius, eliminating the sharp angles where stress fractures typically begin.

Clearance between the presser foot and mould cavity is maintained at 0.2mm to 0.4mm. This tight tolerance prevents concrete leakage while allowing smooth demolding.

Design Types for Different Road Applications

UNIK produces kerb stone moulds for several common profiles used in road construction, drainage systems, and landscaping.

Straight Curb Moulds – Produce standard rectangular kerbstones with flat backs and faces. Used for road edges, parking lots, and pedestrian walkways. The most common configuration for municipal and residential projects.

Tapered Curb Moulds – Produce kerbstones with sloping faces. The taper allows vehicles to mount the curb at driveways and intersections. Used in residential streets and parking lots where emergency vehicle access may be needed.

Round-Top Curb Moulds – Produce kerbstones with rounded upper surfaces. Used in pedestrian areas, parks, and landscaping where a softer appearance is desired.

Drainage Curb Moulds – Produce kerbstones with integrated channels or openings. Water flows through these openings into storm drains. Used in flood-prone areas and along highways.

Barrier Curb Moulds – Produce taller, steeper kerbstones designed to prevent vehicles from leaving the roadway. Used along highways and bridge approaches.

Mountable Curb Moulds – Produce low-profile kerbstones with gentle slopes that vehicles can drive over. Used in emergency access lanes and some residential applications.

Standard lengths available include 500mm, 780mm, and 1000mm, with heights and widths adjustable to project specifications.
