Technical Construction of UNIK Cement Slab Molds
Metallurgy & Heat Treatment
UNIK cement slab molds are fabricated from 42CrMo steel - a chromium-molybdenum alloy selected for its combination of hardness and toughness. For applications involving highly abrasive concrete mixes or extended production runs, tool steel grades such as Cr12MoV are available.
Each mold undergoes a carburizing heat treatment process. This method hardens the surface layer to HRC58-62 while maintaining a tough core at HRC35-40. The hard exterior resists abrasion from concrete aggregates. The flexible core absorbs vibration during the pressing cycle. This dual-hardness approach prevents the brittle cracking that occurs when molds are fully hardened.
Precision Machining
Cavities are machined on CNC equipment to a surface finish of Ra 1.6 or better. All internal corners receive a 3-5mm radius to eliminate stress concentration points. Critical dimensions are held to a tolerance of ±0.1mm.
The result is a mold that releases concrete cleanly at each cycle, produces slabs with consistent thickness and edge definition, and maintains its dimensional accuracy over thousands of cycles.

To initiate an order for cement slab molds, the following information is required:

Upon receipt of this information, UNIK provides a dimensional drawing within 48 hours. After customer approval, production begins. Molds ship 20 to 25 days after drawing approval from Xiamen or Quanzhou port.
