Classification by Paver Style
The first decision in mould selection is the paver shape and interlocking method. Different applications require different edge geometries.
Rectangular paver moulds – Produce standard square or rectangular pavers with straight edges. These are the most common type for residential driveways, walkways, and general paving. Cavity sizes range from 200×100mm to 400×230mm.
Interlocking paver moulds – Produce pavers with curved or angled edges that lock together. The interlocking design distributes loads across multiple pavers, preventing shifting under vehicle traffic. Typical sizes include 252×252mm, 218×135mm, and 173×150mm.
Wave-type paver moulds – Produce pavers with ocean-wave surface patterns. These are increasingly specified for marina developments, waterfront plazas, and decorative public spaces. UNIK delivered a wave-type paver production line to a Colombo waterfront project in 2025.
Hexagonal paver moulds – Produce six-sided pavers that create honeycomb patterns. Used for garden paths, patios, and feature areas where visual impact matters. Standard hexagon sizes range from 140×140mm to 200×200mm.
Grass paver moulds – Produce pavers with open cells that allow grass to grow through. Used for parking lots, fire lanes, and erosion control. Cell patterns include diamond, square, and round openings. Sizes include 333×166mm, 240×210mm, and 190×190mm.
Stone-like paver moulds – Produce pavers with textured surfaces that mimic natural stone, cobblestone, or wood grain. These require higher surface finish standards on the mould cavity to transfer fine detail.
Classification by Material Grade
Concrete paver moulds are manufactured from three material grades, each with different cost and lifespan characteristics.
Standard steel moulds (42CrMo) – Made from chromium-molybdenum alloy steel. Surface hardness reaches HRC55-58 after heat treatment. Expected lifespan is 50,000 to 70,000 cycles. Suitable for medium-volume production and standard concrete mixes.
Premium steel moulds (Cr12MoV or 9CrSi) – Made from high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel. Surface hardness reaches HRC59-62 after carburizing heat treatment. Expected lifespan is 80,000 to 100,000 cycles. Suitable for high-volume production and abrasive concrete mixes.
Plastic moulds (PP) – Made from polypropylene for small-scale or DIY production. Expected lifespan is 500 to 1,500 cycles. Suitable for project-based work, artisan producers, and entry-level operations. Available through trading channels with minimum order quantities of 100-500 pieces at US$6-28 per unit.

UNIK concrete paver moulds are manufactured from 42CrMo (standard) or Cr12MoV/9CrSi (premium) steel, with carburizing heat treatment achieving surface hardness of HRC59-62 and dimensional tolerance of ±0.3mm. The moulds are compatible with over 20 international machine brands including HESS, MASA, ZENITH, BESSER, TIGER, Qunfeng, and Quangong.
