What Is Moulding for Cement Blocks?
Moulding for cement blocks refers to the forming stage of block production. A cement mixture is fed into a steel mould cavity mounted on a block machine. The machine applies vibration to compact the mixture and pressure to shape it. The formed block is then ejected and sent for curing.
The moulding process determines the final dimensions, edge quality, surface texture, and density of every block. If the moulding process is inconsistent or the mould is inaccurate, every block produced will be out of specification.
UNIK specializes in the precision steel moulds used in this process. The company does not produce cement or blocks directly but manufactures the tools that enable block producers to make high-quality products efficiently.

The Moulding Process Step by Step
Step 1 – Material Preparation – Cement, aggregates, water, and sometimes additives are mixed into a homogeneous concrete mixture. The consistency of this mixture affects how it flows into the mould cavities.
Step 2 – Mould Filling – The concrete mixture is fed into the mould cavities. Proper filling ensures that each cavity receives the correct volume of material.
Step 3 – Vibration – The block machine applies vibration to the mould. This causes the concrete mixture to flow into all parts of the cavity, removes trapped air, and compacts the material. Proper vibration is critical for achieving dense, strong blocks.
Step 4 – Pressure – A press head applies pressure to the top of the mould cavity, compressing the concrete to its final shape and density.
Step 5 – Ejection – The press head retracts, and the formed block is pushed out of the mould cavity. The block is still wet and must be handled carefully.
Step 6 – Curing – The block is transferred to a curing area where it gains strength over time.
The mould is used in steps 2 through 5. Its condition directly affects the success of every step.
Types of Cement Block Moulding
UNIK supplies moulds for different cement block types used in construction and landscaping.
Hollow Block Moulding – Produces blocks with core holes that reduce weight and improve thermal insulation. Used for load-bearing walls, partitions, and foundations. The moulding process must maintain precise core alignment to ensure uniform wall thickness.
Solid Block Moulding – Produces fully solid blocks with no core holes. Used for structural walls, foundations, and heavy load applications. The moulding process requires higher pressure to achieve maximum density.
Paver Block Moulding – Produces paving stones for driveways, walkways, and plazas. The moulding process must produce clean edges and consistent surface texture for proper interlocking and appearance.
Curb Stone Moulding – Produces kerbstones for road edges and drainage channels. The moulding process requires longer cavities and careful ejection to prevent damage to long, narrow blocks.
Retaining Wall Block Moulding – Produces interlocking blocks for slope protection and garden walls. The moulding process must maintain precise interlocking features.
Machine Compatibility for Cement Block Moulding
UNIK moulds for cement block moulding are designed to fit most major block machine brands. UNIK maintains specifications for the following manufacturers.
European Machines – HESS, MASA, ZENITH, BESSER, Poyatos, Rometa
Asian Machines – TIGER (Japan), Qunfeng, Hengxing, Quangong
American Machines – Columbia, BESSER
If a customer's machine is not listed, UNIK can still build a mould for it. The customer provides a drawing, an old mould, or clear photographs with measurements. UNIK designs the mounting interface to match the machine exactly.

Quality Assurance for Moulds Used in Cement Block Moulding
Every UNIK mould for cement block moulding is inspected before it leaves the factory. The inspection process includes raw material verification to confirm steel grade, in-process dimensional checks during machining, core alignment verification (for hollow block moulds), hardness testing of both surface and core, final dimensional measurement, and mounting hole alignment checked against a standard test plate. Only moulds that pass every inspection are shipped.
