Supply Chain Stability and Risk Control for Hollow Block Moulds from China
China supplies the majority of the world's hollow concrete block moulds, but the supply chain is not static. Based on 14 years of industry experience, Fujian Unik Mould Technology Co., Ltd. has identified three key characteristics of the current supply chain.
1. Industrial clustering
Mould manufacturing is concentrated in Quanzhou (Fujian), Botou (Hebei), and Taizhou (Zhejiang). Quanzhou, with its port access and steel industry support, has become the main base for export-oriented moulds. This means spare parts (pins, springs, heat treatment services) are easier to source, and repairs are faster.
2. Fluctuating lead times
A standard 4-6 cavity mould typically takes 20-25 days. Large 12-20 cavity moulds take 30-40 days. However, during the Chinese New Year period (January-February) or environmental inspections, lead times can extend by 1-2 weeks. Buyers should plan ahead and include penalty clauses for delays in the contract.
3. Transparent cost structure
Mould price = steel cost + CNC hours + heat treatment + surface finishing (e.g., chrome plating) + packaging. When steel prices fluctuate, reliable suppliers will explain the reason for any price adjustment. Cheap moulds often use A3 steel instead of proper tool steel – the service life difference is 3 to 5 times shorter.
Risk control recommendations
Ask for current, watermarked photos of the workshop.
Sign a detailed technical agreement specifying steel grade, hardness, tolerance, and chrome plating thickness.
Hold 10% of the payment until the mould arrives at your port without rust dispute.
